The science
Shilajit
In a 90-day randomised, placebo-controlled trial in healthy men aged 45 to 55, purified shilajit (250 mg twice a day) raised total and free testosterone and DHEAS compared with placebo. That trial used 500 mg of purified shilajit a day; one capsule of this formula supplies 200 mg. Source: Pandit et al., Andrologia, 2016.
Wild blueberry
A small 12-week pilot study in nine older adults with early memory changes gave them daily wild blueberry juice and assessed memory with paired-associate learning and word-list recall tests. Its authors call for larger trials. The blueberry juice was provided by the Wild Blueberry Association of North America. Source: Krikorian et al., Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2010.
Ashwagandha
In 60 stressed but healthy adults, ashwagandha root extract lowered perceived stress and cortisol compared with placebo over eight weeks. That trial used 250 or 600 mg of extract a day; one capsule of this formula supplies 50 mg of ashwagandha. The extract (KSM-66) was supplied by its maker, Ixoreal Biomed. Source: Salve et al., Cureus, 2019.
Echinacea
In a four-month trial in 755 healthy adults, an Echinacea purpurea extract (Echinaforce, an alcohol extract of the herb and root) was as well tolerated as placebo. Source: Jawad et al., Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2012.
