The science
Modified citrus pectin
Citrus pectin is a fibre from the peel of citrus fruit. Modified citrus pectin is broken into smaller, low-molecular-weight pieces so it can be absorbed from the small intestine. A 2019 review in Nutrients describes its best-studied property: binding galectin-3, a protein researched in many preclinical and clinical models. (The lead author owns a supplement company.) Source: Eliaz and Raz, Nutrients, 2019.
Sulforaphane from broccoli seed
Sulforaphane is the compound broccoli is best known for; the plant stores it as glucoraphanin. A 2019 review by Johns Hopkins and Dundee researchers counts more than 50 human trials and explains why the source, form and dose of sulforaphane matter for how much the body actually receives. Source: Yagishita et al., Molecules, 2019.
Curcumin with black pepper
Curcumin on its own is poorly absorbed. In a classic study in healthy volunteers, taking 20 mg of piperine (from black pepper) with 2 g of curcumin increased curcumin’s bioavailability by 2,000%. That is why this blend pairs curcumin with a 95% piperine black pepper extract. Source: Shoba et al., Planta Medica, 1998.
These studies looked at individual ingredients, often at different amounts or in different forms from this formula. They are summarised here to explain why each ingredient is of research interest, not as a promise of what this product will do. Read every study, grouped by ingredient, in our research library.
