Lactoferrin

Each capsule holds 300 mg of Bioferrin® lactoferrin from cow’s milk, with a small amount of copper.

What it is and who it is for

Lactoferrin is a protein that binds iron. Our bodies make it and it is plentiful in colostrum and breast milk, saliva and tears. This two-ingredient formula is for adults who want a measured daily dose of milk-derived lactoferrin. It is one of the four formulas in Maria’s Protocol.

How to take it

The label directs: take 1 capsule daily on an empty stomach. A bottle of 30 capsules lasts 30 days.

The science

Lactoferrin from milk

A 2020 review in Nutrients by Italy’s National Institute of Health summarises the research on orally taken bovine lactoferrin: an iron-binding protein that is part of the body’s first-line, innate defences, and that the US FDA lists as generally recognised as safe. Pooled trials

A 2021 meta-analysis pooled six randomised controlled trials of lactoferrin (1,194 participants). Its authors describe the evidence as promising and call for larger, well-designed trials.
